Art is one of the oldest ways of understanding as in scientific as well as in religious picture of the world. However, there also is another opinion that art is a way of a cultural activity satisfying man’s affection to beautiful. The emergence of art belongs to the era of the Middle Palaeolithic. First finding of Homo sapiens by archaeologists are dated back to the same era.

In the Stone Age art was represented by primitive rites, music, dancing, all sorts of body jewellery, dendrograph - images on the bark of trees, the images on the skins of animals, cave paintings, rock paintings and sculpture.

For such a long period of time: from the time of the Middle Palaeolithic to the present day, art has changed and modified, there are computers, photo and video equipment, and design. Nowadays, in the 21st century, art and design have reached a qualitatively new level, thanks to the rapid development of our civilization.

This section presents past papers of Edexcel/Pearson examination board. All tasks are developed and evaluated by an experienced team of British independent expert of the largest examination union in the UK - Edexcel.

In Edexcel GCSE Art work you will find small texts dedicated to this section, to which you will have to write an essay. In total exam approximately includes seven topics (depends on the examination year): art, craft and design, fine art, three dimensional design, textile design, photography – lens and light based media, graphic communication and critical and contextual studies.

Main requirements that are welcomed during Edexcel GCE art and design examination and which will be requested by examination board to students are:
